Tax refund for tourists

Tourists may, under certain conditions, apply for a tax refund on goods and services (GST) and on wine (WET) bought in Australia.

 

Duty and quarantine

Australian Customs Service is responsible for the security and integrity of Australia's borders and for helping in importing/exporting goods within the country.

 

Quarantine covers: food (also packaged), fruits, eggs, meat, vegetables, seeds, feathers, wood and plants. The Australian Quarantine and Inspection Service (AQIS) is responsible for checking all luggage. Those who do not obey the above rules are subject to pay a high financial penalty.

 

You are not allowed to bring into Australia: drugs, steroids, weapons and protected plants and animal species. Information on duty regulations is available at the official website of the Australian Customs Service: Customs Information Centre - www.customs.gov.au  

 

Duty free items

Any person who have completed 18 years of age may bring into Australia 2250 ml of alcohol and 250 cigarettes. Bigger volume of these products is subject to charge $ A900 per person.

 

Cash

Import or export of an amount greater than $ A10.000 (or currency equivalent) should be reported to customs official.

 

Vaccinations

Vaccinations are not required except for travelers coming from regions endangered by yellow fever.

 

Medicines

Drugs imported into Australia are subject to strict control. It is recommended to carry prescription and a letter from your doctor.

 

Credit Cards

All credit cards available in Poland are accepted in Australia.

 

Electric current

The voltage in Australia is different than in Poland and accounts for 240V.

 

Plugs/outlets

Due to the differences between Polish and Australian plugs/outlets, the adapter is necessary in order to use Polish equipment.
